#Inktober Drawing: “Outpost” + Thoughts on Isolation

Day 15 of #Inktober2020 brings the cue word “Outpost.” #Inktober

I had two concepts immediately spring to mind, so this is the one I sketched out. I think that right now, a lot of people feel isolated and that’s usually where my mind goes when I think of an outpost. That solitary soldier, or scientist, or adventurer out on their own.

I think I was probably shaped by the sci-fi stories I read as a kid, or maybe it’s just that viewing of Never Cry Wolf that locked the concepts of isolation and outposts together. Either way, here’s some lonely soul wondering if or when the pickup ship will arrive to deliver him from the frozen tundra.

Did they forget? Has time simply melted into indiscriminate chunks orbiting a strange sky?

Who knows. But this is what I saw in my head. Originally I’d thought I’d make it water, but I thought frozen tundra worked better.

Anyhow, the usual disclaimer: If you like it, great. If you don’t, that’s fine too. I’m just trying to put it out there for the sake of putting it out there. I stuck with black and white but might need to check out Prime Days to see if I can get some additional pens.
