Something I Just Don’t Understand

Ben Quadrinaros
Gosh Darn Son of a Freaking Dog! (Copyright Lucasfilm, 1999, except for the pain it represents, which is mine.)

How is it that people who are completely clueless about process, time, cost and expectation allowed to make decisions that have to do with them? Why is it that salesmen are allowed into the process at all?

I’ll tell you what we can do, and how long it would take to do it, before you promise it to anyone. Let’s have a conversation about your idiot ideas before you go around selling things that shouldn’t be sold, where if they don’t get completed, you can shift the blame to someone else.

You sell the concept and the product, because you have dollar signs in your eyes and maybe you’re sick of eating cat food. But you know what? After you make the promise and screw up my world, you walk off and treat yourself to a steak while I pull overtime to make sure we (OK, I) don’t have egg stuck on me.

It’s a supreme test of Christian Good Will to have to work with people that have absolutely, positively, no concept of the scale of effort for something and then tell you they need it after they’ve already promised it to someone else.

How am I supposed to wish anything but ill on people like that?
